Description:
This illustration gives an anatomical
overview of the "before" and "after"
stages of the Roux-en-Y procedure in
order to inform patients about what is
being done during the surgery. The inset
shows the location of incisions for
laparoscopic instrumentation for the
closed procedure. It also shows where
the midline incision is made for the open procedure.
The doctor would then use this as a visual aid to help
patients understand the procedure. Part of this
illustration was also used as inside artwork for
the Lahey Clinic Health Magazine, Spring 2000 issue article,
"Surgical Options for Treating Obesity"
